Where is Bangalore?
  • Bangalore is located in Southern India.
Why did Bangalore grow?
Because of its reputation as a beautiful garden city with a pleasant climate.
India gained independence from UK in 1947 and when this happened the government concentrated education and research centres in Bangalore.
These led to a rapid increase in the cities population.

Land uses in Bangalore
CBD
  • The CBD is very similar to that of an MEDC. It contains main shopping, leisure and offices.
  • The CBD is split by CUbbon Park
High class housing pre 1940 - Fraser Town
  • This area is one of the oldest parts of Bangalore and is 3km from the CBD
  • The area has many apartment blocks which contain expensive apartments catering to the middle and upper classes.
  • The services in the area were built for lower density housing and there are often water shortages.
Medium class housing 1940 - 1980 - Indiranager
  • This area is 4km from the CBD
  • It is one of the best residential areas in Bangalore.
  • There are many large individually designed houses with tree lined streets.
  • There are many nice open spaces and good schools here like in an English suburb.
Shanty towns - maya Bazaar shanty town
  • This is located 3km south of the city.
  • It is on poor quality land that used to be owned by the army.
  • It was first settled by migrant workers in the 1950's and the houses were built using whatever materials could be found.
  • There were no basic facilities and a shanty town developed.
  • Many buildings have now been improved and are made of breeze blocks and some facilities are being improved including communal toilet blocks and street taps.
  • There are still many problems in this area.

this is just simply awful. geography is the worst thing; i mean bangalore clearly has alot more of a vibrant gay scene and active nightlife, but geography just gets in the way of everything
